“Fun, Fun”

I have a favorite video of one of my grandsons when he was only about a year and a half old. He had a new game, and he was taking the pieces out of the box and saying “game.” With each piece: “gaaame,” A least a half dozen times, “gaaame,” with an emphasis on the “ga” part and holding the “a” out. You think that is cute, but then he says “fun, fun” almost as if it is par for the course – a game means fun. Then he comes to the gameboard and says, “paper,” and we smile. So smart, such a huge vocabulary, and cute as well as rambunctious. The point I’m wanting to bring out about this adorable child is the “fun, fun.” You can see in the videos and photos that he does indeed have fun in almost everything he does. Dancing to Ghostbuster’s music or children’s shows, jumping at the end of a physical display instead of just stepping the last step. He’s a tough little trouper, doing things that are beyond his age, but always with a fun attitude.

There are plenty of things we are going to have to do in life that aren’t much fun, but with the right attitude we can find something fun about it, even if it’s making a parody of whatever it is we are doing. Or cracking some jokes. Or remembering it could be worse, i.e. cleaning toilets versus working at a wastewater treatment plant. (I'm not sure what the person working at the treatment plant would think was worse – maybe working in an ER? We all have our place in life wherever we are. Things need doing, so everyone's job is important.). So, let’s just say, “fun, fun” and get on with it. A happier attitude is sure to turn the tide of misery into a whirlwind of joy.
