We sure had a break from typical winter weather the last two months, but when winter came at last, it descended properly with arctic temperatures and a decent amount of snow. In honor of our Michigan winters, a poem:
Winter’s Enchantment
Landscapes awash in white, hiding green grass below.
But we know it’s there.
Critters hunkering or sleeping,
awaiting the awakening life of Spring.
Gentle the snow that falls on our heads.
Crisp the air, frigid in our lungs…calling us, calling us to go inside.
But we trudge through the cold, the drifts, the waiting, waiting, waiting–
For warmth of sun to return.
So, we trudge, we wait, we soak in the beautiful landscapes while we have them.
And another season passes, day by day, moment by moment.
Earth breathing, nature expanding as only she can.
And we find peace in it – because that is what nature can give.
Powerful, joyful, peaceful scenes.
And we relish in them.
(Are you shivering yet? Or soaking in the mental scenes? Have a wonderful rest of the winter, Michiganders and our sister states!)
