Belt It Out

We have some fabulous singers with angelic voices in our family, but do we know WHO ELSE in the family can sing? Some people don’t care to sing, but might have a great voice. Some might be too shy or self-conscious to sing in front of anyone (shower singers?), and then someone unexpected sings and we are blown away. One of my brothers, now in his 60’s, never sang much except at church and happy birthdays and maybe when his stereo was going (with headphones on and he sang a little out-of-tune - maybe it was the headphones?). His wife got him to dress up one year for Halloween as Kenny Rodgers and she as Dolly Parton and they sang a duet. We watched the video and were like, cool, they’re pretty good. Some years later, we started doing karaoke at our Christmas parties and the couple got up and sang one of the duets they had learned. I was sitting with several of my other siblings and we all were saying, “I didn’t know he had such a good singing voice.” Another time, one of my cousins-in-love posted herself singing the national anthem at a sporting event and, wow, what a voice. I hadn't known she had such a beautiful voice. It prompted me to share what I wrote on her timeline. "Watching you sing makes me think that when we look at people, we should always remember there is so much more to them than what we can see. Both in abilities and in personality – all the beauty, untapped potential, and talent hidden beneath. There's not enough time do everything in this life, but it's good to remember the beauty within, whatever form it comes in." And I will now add: "Or even if we never get to see it." Whether we have a good voice or sing out-of-tune – belt it out. Singing is good for the lungs and the soul! Let that inner person free to be all you can be. And remember, there is so much more to a person than what we can see. Everyone is special. (Including ourselves.)
