BFF’S (Best Friends Forever)

The young generations are interesting. BFF, TYVM, LOL, ILY, new styles, old styles, fearless, selfish, kind, sassy, YOUNG. All good things to have as starters, but can they really understand the BFF thing?

The friend of the moment who seems to be a forever friend may last and may not. He/she may upset us, and we are on to another BFF. But when you’re ninety years old and you still have one of your BFF’s to hang out with, hug, and laugh with at your ninetieth party, you know the meaning of a TRUE best friend forever. A person who may have gotten busy in life for a few years here or there or went through trials that took the friend away for a while, but who stood by you through hard times, had fun with you in the regular times, and made laughing a part of your life despite all circumstances. And when you got together with them again, it seemed as if no time has passed. A person who is always happy when they are with you. Who loves you and wants the best for you, no matter what it may cost them.

BBFs. Don’t throw away those precious relationships. Whether it’s a childhood friend, a friend who raised kids alongside of you, or a spouse, treat them with respect, support them whenever you can, and try not to let them go totally to the wayside. There are some people who are “my people” (as a cousin of mine is fond of saying to people who think like she thinks), who click with us, walk with us, bind with us, and make our lives special. Sometimes it takes work when there’s a hiccup or a kick in the stomach. Sometimes, the best friend you thought you had isn’t a real friend; move on from toxic relationships. But sometimes – there are those who make the adage “the best is yet to come” alive. Hang on to those however you can. One day you may be ninety years old… Who will be at your side?
