Do You Believe in Angels

Since it’s almost Christmas, I thought I would think about angels. Angels We Have Heard on High…and all that. Who heard them? I googled it. Google didn’t have an answer. It just brought up Revelation 5:11 from the Bible, “Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders.” (New Living Translation) Of course we know the shepherds heard the angels announcing the birth of Jesus and that’s who they were talking about in the song that came to my mind. But let’s really consider whether or not there are angels.
In response to one of my recent blogs, one of my sisters said, “I was catching up on reading Colleen’s essays I have missed recently. They are great. But “Suppose…” Oh that one blew my mind. And yes, there are angels and they are fierce and glorious and difficult to look at, vibrating shards of brilliant energy.” (I loved her description so much it got me going on this blog.) She knows, because she had an unforgettable experience with angels that saved her and her husband’s lives. A dark night, an insane drunk at the wheel, snow lined, slippery roads…and angels on either side of their vehicle keeping them on the road. And she got to see them. Wow. Imagine it.
I have several friends who got to see angels when their loved ones were dying. One said, they said they were so large you couldn’t see their feet; they were below the floor. One dying gal said she could hear the angels singing. (Oh, the joy on her face.) Another friend had a son overseas who was protected by a bomb. Yet another friend fell and hurt herself badly. While she waited for help, a woman came up to her and put a blanket on her and stayed with her until her friends got to her. Then she was suddenly not there. An angel? If yes, she had a dog with her…so apparently dogs do go to heaven. (We are not surprised, are we?)
I have more stories of people seeing angels during church services, while driving, and having visions of them protecting their loved ones. I myself have had visions or "senses" of them around my vehicle and at all four corners of my house and surrounding me to protect me from harm. We can choose to believe in them or not, but there is definitely a force caring for us at times that we cannot explain. I choose to believe and let myself be open to the possibility of experiencing them one day beyond a vision. Maybe it doesn’t happen for me until I join the Lord, but, hey, there’s nothing wrong with believing in a God who cares for us enough to send angels to guide us and protect us from harm. And then there’s Jesus… A babe born in a manger… “For unto us a child is born...” (Isaiah 9:6) God gave us Him as well. Now, let’s think about that for a while.
Merry Christmas, everyone!! And Happy Holidays!!
