I Voted This Week

I voted this week. I love that I can vote. I love that I live in a country that lets me prefer one candidate over another. I love that we can put a sign in our yard that tells people who we are hoping wins. I love that I live in a country that allows me to be angry or concerned when the person I voted for doesn’t win the election. Which, after a week, I can get over enough to continue my regular busyness and watch what happens next with hope in my heart. Because I believe all people have something to offer. The fear is that what bad they may do will outweigh the good. But whichever candidates win, whether our choice or not, there is nothing we can do at that point but watch with hope and volunteer where people need us. Because, our job is to look out for each other on the “ground floor.” Whether it’s in religious, social, political, family, or random projects or capacity, we need to make sure we’re all being seen and heard and cared for – loved. Love is an action, and the best reward we get for loving is the feeling of knowing we helped. It is a fulfillment that is unmatched.

Yup. I voted this week. And I’ll accept who wins with grace because I know the real business of life isn’t in politics. It’s in everyday life.
