It's Okay to be Bored

Life is so busy. Go, go, go. Family, work, friends, exercise, errands, preparations (shall I go on?)… Even vacations – if you can fit them into your busy schedule – can cause as much work and busyness as regular life does. And – suddenly – suddenly, we are sitting in our living room, with a remote in our hand and nothing worth watching, and nothing needing doing – and we are bored. So we do everything we can to find something worth doing, because we can’t waste time, and our brains are now fiercely wired to “do!” Besides, we know there’s so much to do, if we can just figure out what to do right now. So, basically, we end up wasting an hour or two stressing about having to keep busy or at least keep our mind active.

But you know what? It is okay to be bored. It is okay to find yourself with nothing to do at the moment. You can rest. You can take a nap. You can think about nothing at all. Better yet, you can stop and get to know yourself. Talk to yourself. Talk to your kids, spouse, parents… Be "bored"; but use it wisely. Not pushing yourself to “do,” but to “be.” Take a deep breath. Let it out slowly, listening to every millisecond of it. Rest in the moment. Rest in yourself. Rest in the Lord or universe or whatever moves your spirit. Put on your "magician's hat", make a little magic and… Rest.
