What? No snow for Christmas – in Michigan? I am afraid it has been known to happen, although not very many times. I remember one year when not only was there no snow, but it was sunny and 70 degrees! Best year ever! At least for weather. This year is looking like another “no-snow” Christmas. Yes, that’s a “no-show” for the snow! Santa will have to put wheels on his sleigh. Although, these days, the movies have him with jet powered sleighs, so I’m not too worried about him.
As for the picture, one of my sisters lived in Alaska for about 20 years and decided part way in that coming home for Christmas wasn’t worth dealing with the weather, airport layovers, etc. So that particular year, my mom got the grandkids out on her deck with signs that said, “Merry Christmas, no snow” and sent it to her. Lol, it looks like the teenagers would much rather have been elsewhere, but some of the little ones got into it. I’m sure my sister appreciated the humor and the gift of seeing her nieces and nephews in the picture, but I know it understandably didn’t change her mind about traveling from Alaska to Michigan during winters.
Despite weather or jobs or covid, we have gotten creative about our family Christmas gatherings. Phone calls, zoom calls, we’ve got it covered. Maybe it’s not the same as an in-person gathering, but it still brings us together and we are very grateful for it.
So, Merry Christmas everyone! No matter if snow or loved ones come or not, no matter if you are lying in pain, mourning, or have a lot on your plate, may you be fully blessed this Christmas (or whatever holiday/religion you celebrate) with joy and peace. Because our biggest blessing did come and He brought peace and joy with Him. Good news to all mankind – it belongs to all who choose to believe. Yes, there is more to the magic of life than Santa or science or logic or what we can see. Believe. In someone or something or yourself. Believe. It will give you hope, which gives joy, which gives peace. But the peace that passes understanding rests in Jesus. May it be yours as you remember the reasons for gathering, for celebrating, for being who you are. Created to be. That’s a miracle in itself.
