Did you plan on some of the “camels” of your life? When I say “camels,” I’m talking about high (impactful or life-changing), sometimes uncomfortable rides we didn’t expect to come along. Although, some of them we may well have chosen. Like marrying a certain person despite people warning us that it wouldn’t work out, and, after an initial high ride, we fell off that camel with permanent bruises intact. Some camels are thrust on us: having to raise a family member’s children for some reason or getting a debilitating disease or condition (that's a cumbersome, constant camel). Some are a wild ride – a vacation mountain climbing or skiing, or an unexpected visitor who takes you for a turn in their Corvette or motorcycle – and they drive way too fast for your comfort.
How did you handle those episodes? Do you enjoy surprise attacks, events, or joyrides? Did you hate being at that height or does it feed your soul to “fly” high? Did the experience make you braver and maybe even calmer for next height? If you don't like these life-changing times, did you learn to find joy in them anyway?
Not all “camel” rides are bad, and technically, none of them are bad if we are willing to learn from them and every bump in the road of life they bring. Try to find the fun side of things, the positives. Make them a challenge, an opportunity, rather than just a trial. Life is so much better when we do. But, definitely, try out some of those camels, so you end life feeling like you lived.
