How is the new year looking for you? Are you in a rut? Going through hell? Or flying high? Is it looking like sunny days are here, are coming, or so far away that you feel you will never see the sun again?
Of course, I am speaking metaphorically. Sunshine is happiness, right? And dark clouds are sad, depressing, or stressful. Maybe you are going through some really hard times. Maybe you just lost a beloved, or you are in the middle of a bitter divorce, or a sick child hovers in pain, or you are about to lose your home or financial security. Maybe all of the above - or worse. How can we see the “sun” when these kinds of clouds hang over us? We can strive to compartmentalize. When we have to deal with these things, we deal with them. When we can set them aside for a time, we set them aside. We don’t have to let these weights pull us down constantly.
If you’ve ever flown in a plane on a dark, cloudy day, you know that when the plane rises through the clouds and comes out above them, the sun is out. Everywhere. Blue, never-ending skies fill our senses and give us peace. Think of the problems as clouds that we can rise above. If we do it often enough, we can start to take the sun with us when we descend again. Joy becomes a habit; a part of who we are. This can make it easier to deal with the present trials at hand when we do need to face them – and hopefully grow from them.
Grab that sunlight and don’t let go. It will help you deal with whatever you are going through. And if you are in a good place right now – burrow it deep in your soul, so it will give you the strength and courage to remember that all difficult times pass. We go through trials to come out on the other side; still breathing, still striving, and ever more mature and ready for the next step. Breathe. Shine.
